Death & Posters

You know when you buy a certain car (like my salmon-pink PT Cruiser), and then all you see are those cars on the road? Well, working with posters has totally improved my poster-eye in that now I can’t seem to escape them.

Take this Sunday’s New York Times, for example:

cyrus

Yep, heading off the obituary section is someone named Cyrus Harvey sandwiched by two posters originally printed by my boss when he ran Darien House.

I think we might just have one of those Levy’s Rye “You Don’t Have to Be Jewish to Love Levy’s” posters left with the Native American guy chowing down. Rumor has it that the guy photographed was just some Latin American fellow wandering around Grand Central who they dolled up and had eat some bread. I mean, frankly, I wish that happened to me when I’m stuck on the 6 Train — Lord knows I get hungry and love costumes.

As for the poster to the left, that was designed by Al Hirschfeld to promote the book Drat! about W.C. Fields, and we totally still offer it for sale.

So there you have it: some guy dies and our posters are famous.

Well done, NY Times, well done.
