Cutting-Edge International Bidding for Bloomsbury Auctions
THE PHOTOGRAPHS SALE: 19 MAY 2010
Nickolas Muray (1892-1965); Frida with Granizo, ca. 1939; $5,000-7,000 USD
To be offered 19 May 2010, New York: Session III
This spring, Bloomsbury Auctions is launching an unprecedented three centre, simultaneous, international auction spanning London, Rome and New York. This carefully designed three session sale will run seamlessly from one city to the next. The Photographs sale on 19th May 2010 will be the first sale at Bloomsbury to implement this new strategy. It has been created in such a way so as to enable the three major centres, with their diverse tastes and unique markets, to broadcast a continuous sale across the three cities and two continents using an online, live-bidding platform which allows vendors and buyers to reach the broadest possible audience while ensuring global-reaching competition for the sale.
This innovative strategy is also part of a larger realignment within Bloomsbury Auctions as the firm introduces the newly restructured International Photographs Department, with Hannah Hayden as the International Head. Her extensive experience at Phillips de Pury & Company compliments the new Photographs Specialist in London, Sarah Wheeler, who joins the department from Beirut where she was a Project Officer for the Arab Image Foundation, having studied the history of photography at Sotheby’s. In London, Sarah joins consultants Roland Belgrave and John Cumming while Silvia Berselli continues to run the department’s presence in Rome.
The Photographs Sale will be held on Wednesday 19th May and is accompanied by a single, fully illustrated catalogue.
