Marietta Square Transforms Into an Antique Market At The “MARIETTA ANTIQUE STREET FESTIVAL“
Marietta, GA - The Annual Marietta Antique Street Festival returns to the picturesque Marietta Square Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 9:00am-5:00pm (rain or shine) presented by the Marietta Museum of History. Marietta is the perfect setting for this event as the Georgia Magazine Readers Choice Awards named it Best Antique Shopping. The festival was also selected by Southeast Tourism Society as a Top 20 Event for September.
This premier event draws over 100 antique dealers from Georgia and the southeast that will display and sell their wares. Their specialties range from unique collectors’ items to fine furniture and home decorations. A great selection of glass, porcelains, linens, bottles and collectibles will be available. From shabby chic to traditional, from treasures and finds to the unusual, there’s something for everyone. If you think you have a priceless piece, stop by the “Trash or Treasure” free verbal approximation booth from 11:00 - 2:00 p.m. (one per visit please). Stroll through the park, enjoy the local entertainment and gather information on other interesting and historic sites in Cobb County in the Heritage Area. Many staff members will be in authentic costumes. The Marietta Square Farmers Market will relocate to N. Park Square and provide one last opportunity to buy home grown fruits, vegetables, flowers & herbs and more. Antiques of another kind will make an appearance at the Hubcaps and History Car Show, 10:00 to 4:00 p.m. (weather permitting). Vote for your favorite car and with your “I voted sticker” tour the Marietta Museum of History free of charge.
The Museum is located one block off the square on the second floor of the historic Kennesaw House, which was originally a cotton warehouse built in 1845. It was remolded to become the Fletcher House Hotel in 1855 and later served as a makeshift hospital and morgue during the Civil War. Today the museum houses four galleries featuring collections from the Civil War, Local History, Home Life and the Military. In addition to the festival, the 20 local antique shops will have special “sidewalk sales.” Shop ‘till you’re hungry, because local restaurants will satisfy your appetite. Visitors can tour Marietta’s heritage using the self-guided walking tour brochure. If you’d like to take a tour of Marietta’s three heritage museums, you can purchase a Heritage Passport at the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau. The Center, located at No. 4 Depot Street, is open that Saturday from 10am-5pm. You can visit the Marietta web site: www.mariettasquare.com for information on things to see and do in this historic community.
Festival admission is free and free parking is available in the Cobb County Parking Deck on Cherokee Street. For dealer & festival information visit, www.mariettahistory.org or call 770-794-5710. Don’t miss this fabulous annual event!
