Calling All Young Budding Scientists!
Get a charge out of experiments at Scienceworks’ new Experiment Zone for kids. Throughout weekends in May and June, children can take part in 30 minute experiment sessions and learn more about electricity and magnetism.
“Children will have the chance to conduct experiments that investigate the uses of batteries, electrical currents and magnets in a 30 minute session in the Experiment Zone,” Experiment Zone Coordinator, Angela Muscat said.
Experiment Zone will allow children to learn about the science of electricity and magnetism in a fun and interactive environment. They will have the chance to design electrical circuits, become a human battery and have the opportunity to work scientifically with science equipment.
The experience also includes take home activities to build an electromagnet and compass using readily available materials.
Visitors can also extend their knowledge of electricity and magnetism by exploring the Megawatt exhibition at Scienceworks. Housed next to the Experiment Zone, from 24 May to 12 June, Megawatt aims to show the relevancy of electricity to our everyday lives and highlights the importance of safety when dealing with it. The exhibition is divided into seven modules, each dealing with different aspects of the making, transmitting and usage of electricity. These include static - electricity is everywhere, transport and travel, entertainment, household uses, communication, generation and transmission and sustainable energy.
