The Melbourne Story
The largest exhibition ever developed by Museum Victoria, The Melbourne Story, will reveal Melbourne’s unique and changing tale when it opens at Melbourne Museum in March 2008. The Melbourne Story features more than 1200 objects from Museum Victoria’s collections, making it the most complete and object-rich exhibition about Melbourne ever staged. The exhibition will feature iconic objects from Melbourne’s history such as a historic bark canoe from the Yarra River, a restored Cobb & Co coach, a carriage from the Luna Park Big Dipper and the much-loved ‘Little Men’ from Coles’ Book Arcade.

Drugs: a social history
This exhibition explores our love-hate relationship with drugs, revisiting pivotal moments in Australia’s drug-taking history. From sly-grog to safe injecting; from Bex to the billboard vigilante group BUGAUP; from opium dens to the Aquarius Festival and rave nation - this powerful show challenges views on drugs.

Hatching the Past: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies
What came first, the dinosaur or the egg? Take an exciting look at the life of dinosaurs through their eggs, nests and embryos. Never before seen in Australia, the exhibition features over 130 dinosaur egg casts, 15 complete articulated dinosaur cast skeletons and life-sized models as well as baby chickens, alligators and other live exhibits. Fossils collected from all over the world include a bowling ball-sized egg of a titanosaur from Argentina and the longest dinosaur eggs ever discovered-those of the oviraptor, a carnivorous, ostrich-like dinosaur discovered in Central China.

Top Designs 2008
Be inspired and motivated by the creativity and skills of the best design works from Victoria’s final year VCE secondary school design students. Students’ works range from film, furniture, fashion and graphic design to mechanics, photography, publishing and food. Top Designs 2008 also features the development of the final product. Presented in partnership with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority as part of the VCE Season of Excellence.

Murray Cod: the biggest fish in the river
The Murray Cod is much more than just the biggest fish in the river; it is a symbol for the river itself. This exhibition is a rich showcase of more than 40 works inspired by Australia’s most iconic fish, weaving historical illustrations and personal stories with contemporary Indigenous arts and photographs of the Murray Cod.

Connecting to Country
This exhibition showcases paintings, drawings and felting works that reflect the journeys of five Indigenous artists who have travelled to five different parts of Victoria to learn about and connect with their traditional homelands. Presented as part of the Bunjilaka Community Exhibition Program.

Pompeii Body Casts on display
To celebrate the announcement of the 2009 Melbourne Winter Masterpiece exhibition, A Day in Pompeii, visitors to Melbourne Museum have the unique opportunity to view a body cast of two women who were among nine victims found in the House of Cryptoporticus.
Presented in association with the Soprintendenza Archeologica Di Pompei.

The Mind: Enter the Labyrinth
This new permanent exhibition explores the working of the human mind by entering a world of emotions, thoughts, memories and dreams. Visitors can step into the shoes of those that see the world from different mind perspectives. Discover the ways in which drugs and disorders affect our minds, and question your attitudes to normality.
