Collection to be offered in numerous sales throughout 2008 at Christie’s Rockefeller Plaza

New York - Christie’s announces that it has been selected to offer a collection of personal property from the Estate of Leona M. Helmsley in a series of sales throughout 2008 at Rockefeller Center.  The sales will feature property from Mrs. Helmsley’s New York, Greenwich, CT and Sarasota, FL homes, and will be offered in 15 sales covering numerous collecting categories including 19th Century Furniture, American Paintings, Impressionist and Modern Art, Old Master Paintings, Important European Furniture, Russian Works, Silver and others.  All of the net proceeds will benefit the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley were titans of the real estate industry.  Together they created an unrivaled real estate empire, including such spectacular trophy properties as the Empire State Building, The Park Lane Hotel, The New York Helmsley Hotel, The Helmsley Palace Hotel, 140 Broadway, 230 Park Avenue (The Helmsley Building,) 140 Broadway, One Penn Plaza, and their former management and leasing company known as Helmsley-Spear, Inc.  Overseeing day-to-day operations as well as the big picture vision for one of the city’s preeminent real estate portfolios, the Helmsleys’ impact on New York was extraordinarily broad, deep and indelible.
